Town Council – Councillor Vacancies
Two Town Councillors have recently tendered their resignations, Nigel Andrews and Dawn Spurling. Town Councillors thank them for their input to the Town Council during their term as Members. The resignations create two what are termed ‘Casual Vacancies’ i.e. those vacancies that occur during the 5-year period between statutory, full council elections. A formal Notice of Vacancy has been issued in each case. These have been posted on the Town Council’s main notice board in the High Street. In the November edition of the Newsletter I shall provide information on the process for filling the vacancies. In the meantime, if you have an interest in becoming a Town Councillor, please contact me to express that interest and/or for an answer to any question you may have regarding the process for becoming a Town Councillor or, what the role of a Town Councillor entailsA Casual Vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for Needham Market Town Council.

The Town Council is pleased to be supporting a group of campaigners aimed at improving accessibility to the Needham Market Train Station.
Needham Market Train Station – ‘Access for All’ CampaignThank you for your help so far towards this local petition (nearly 1500 signatures April 2018) to achieve an alternative to the 49 steep steps to access or disembark from the Ipswich-bound platform. Currently wheelchair users, and many others with limited mobility, travelling with buggies, toddlers, heavy luggage or bicycles, are unable to use our train station; it is also restricting economic development in this fast-growing area. Our campaign has been busy:
Ongoing coverage in local newspapers and Radio Suffolk
Meetings with Council and Railway officials and support of local organisations, businesses, and Councils at Town, District and County level
Support of national organisations such as Campaign for Better Transport
A Facebook profile, with link to the online version of our petition
In March 2018 we met with Chris Grayling, Secretary of State for Transport, together with MP Jo Churchill – both are now aware of our station’s exceptionally poor access facilities and of our campaign to improve this.It is likely Government will be considering new funding in late 2018 – this will be a national ‘pot’ and competition will be fierce. We need as much evidence of local support as possible to increase our chance of a Government grant – our goal is 2000 signatures.PLEASE HELP US BY DISPLAYING THIS PETITION AND ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO SIGN.
SUPPORTERS CAN ALTERNATIVELY SIGN ONLINE AT: tinyurl.com/needhamstation

This hardy group of Local Campaigners already include Town, District and County Councillors as well as our local Member in Parliament Jo Churchill, yet still urgently need your support.
